    Lumberjacks Finish Season Opener in Sixth Place

    HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men’s golf team recorded a final round 299 Tuesday morning to finish sixth at the HBU Invitational in Houston, Texas. The Lumberjacks carded no rounds above 79 on the final day to finish with a three-round 283-295-299 – 877 on the 7,002-yard, par-71 course at Woodforest Golf Club.

    Junior Blake Pugh led the ‘Jacks with a final round 69 to finish in fifth place at 210. Pugh led the tournament in par-five scoring, finishing the week at six-under. Junior Bradley Phelps fired a four-over 75 to finish tied for 26th at 219.

    SFA blitzed the field on the par-fives, finishing nineteen-under in par-five scoring, and five shots better than any other team in the field.

    Junior Austin DeWitt saw carded a final round 76 to finish tied for 35th at 222. Sophomore Major Monzingo finished just five-shots off DeWitt’s pace for the week, carding a final round 79 to finish tied for 47th at 227.

    Sophomore Luke Sheehan, competing as a medalist, fired his tournament-low even-par 71 to finish tied for 24th at 218.

    The ‘Jacks return to action next week in Huntsville, at the Sam Houston Invitational beginning Monday, Oct. 7.
