HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men’s golf team recorded a final round 285 Tuesday morning to finish fourth at the SHSU Harold Funston Invitational in Huntsville, Texas. The Lumberjacks closed the tournament in strong form with no rounds above 75 to finish with a three-round 287-301-285 – 873 on the 6943-yard, par-71 course at Raven Nest Golf Club.
Sophomore Luke Sheehan, who led SFA in scoring for the week, carded a final round 70 to finish tied for seventh at 214. The top-ten finish was Sheehan’s first of the season and third for his career.
Junior Bradley Phelps fired a final round even-par 71 to finish at 217 tied for 12th. Junior Austin DeWitt finished just one stroke off Phelps’ pace, carding a final round 72 to finish 14th at 218.
Junior’s Blake Pugh (226 T-29) and Cody Wing (227 T-32) bounced back Tuesday morning, carding their tournament low rounds at 72 and 75 respectively.
The Lumberjacks will have a week off before returning to action at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Ruston, LA, Oct. 21-22.
