RUSTON, La - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team fired an opening round 301 Monday morning at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. The Lumberjacks closed the day with a second round 300 to finish in tenth place (601) heading into Tuesday's final round.
SFA Junior Blake Pugh led the `Jacks on day one with an opening round one-under par 71. Pugh closed the day with an even-par 72 to finish tied for 8th (143).
Sophomore Luke Sheehan fired a four-over par 76 in round one, before closing the day with a two-over 74 to finish tied for 29th (160). Junior Austin DeWitt finished the day tied for 44th at 153 (77-76).
Redshirt Freshman Baxter Ward fired opening day rounds of 77 and 79 to finish tied for 53rd (156). Junior Bradley Phelps finished one shot back of Ward, tied for 57th at 157 (79-78).
Junior Cody Wing, who competed as a medalist, carded opening rounds of 78 and 75 to finish tied for 44th at 153.
The Lumberjacks will begin Tuesday's final round with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
