EL DORADO, Ark. – Stephen F. Austin sits atop the leaderboard after the opening 18 holes of the 2016 Duck Commander Intercollegiate. The Lumberjacks shot a 6-over 294 in round one and holds a one shot edge on Arkansas State (7-over 295) following the opening day of competition.

With Sunday’s 294, SFA has now posted a sub-300 round in eight of its 10 rounds to open the 2016-17 season. The 294 is tied for the fifth-lowest round of the year to date as SFA has now hit the mark in three of its first four events.
Junior Blake Stock is leading the way for the Lumberjacks, shooting a career-low 2-under 70 for SFA and sitting second among the individual standings, two shots off the pace of the tournament leader. He was joined in the top-10 by sophomore Angelo Leyvani and senior Major Monzingo as the duo posted a 1-over 73 and a 2-over 74, respectively, in round one.
Senior Cory Brown sits just on the outskirts of the top-20 as well, tied for 23rd overall following his opening round 5-over 77. Sophomore Jacob Hendrix rounds out the Lumberjack scorecard with a 6-over 78, tied for 30th overall.
With 18 holes in the book, SFA leads the 10-team field with the one shot edge on Arkansas State. Little Rock (11-over 299) is third with host Louisiana-Monroe (12-over 300) and UT-Arlington (16-over 304) rounding out the top-five.
The ‘Jacks are the leaders of four Southland Conference schools in the tournament with Southeastern Louisiana (19-over 307) sitting seventh, Houston Baptist (21-over 309) eighth and Nicholls (26-over 314) 10th.
Round two of the Duck Commander Intercollegiate gets underway with an 8:30 tee time Monday morning as the Lumberjacks begin their second round with Hendrix’ 9:20 a.m. tee time. The players will tee off in 10-minute increments, leading up to Stock’s 10:00 a.m. start as SFA will play with Arkansas State and Little Rock in the second round pairings.
