GULF SHORES, Al – The Stephen F. Austin men’s golf team fired an opening round 301 in the ASU Fall Beach Classic in Gulf Shores, Al. The Lumberjacks closed the day with a second round 295 to finish in 8th place at 596.
Sophomore Luke Sheehan and Junior Blake Pugh fired identical scores on Monday, finishing tied for 22nd at 148. Sheehan carded back-to-back 74’s on the day, continuing upon a consistent fall campaign. Pugh opened with a seven-over 79 before climbing to a three-under 69 in the second round.
Freshman Cory Brown fired a two-over 74 in his debut as a Lumberjack. Brown closed the day with a second round 77, to finish tied for 37th at 151. Junior Cody Wing finished the day tied for 41st, carding rounds of 77 and 75 on the day.
Junior Austin DeWitt fired rounds of 76 and 79 to finish tied for 52nd at 155.
SFA’s Sheehan and Pugh finished the day amongst the top of the tournament in par-5 scoring. Pugh carded two eagles, while Sheehan played the scoring holes at three-under for the day.
The Lumberjacks return to action Tuesday morning, and will look to continue their climb up the leaderboard.
