Second-year head coach Trey Schroeder will take his youthful Lumberjack squad to Austin, Texas Sunday to open the 2007-08 season at the Texas Cup Intercollegiate. The tournament is a two-day 36-hole tournament that will begin Monday at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday's round will get under way at 8 a.m.
Both rounds will take place at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. The 10-team field will consist of tournament-host Texas, Southland Conference foes Texas-Arlington and Texas State, along with Texas-Pan American, Texas Southern, New Orleans, College of Charleston, Northern Iowa, Western Illinois and Towson.
The Lumberjacks will be one of the youngest teams in the conference heading into the new season. The SFA roster consists of one senior, one junior, two sophomores and four freshmen.
Six Lumberjacks qualified this week for the Texas Cup Intercollegiate. The 'Jacks making the trip to Austin include sophomores Matthew Oates and Richard Wilkenfeld, and freshmen Kyle Robbins, Michael Smith, Jacob Taylor and Justin Weant.
Following the Texas Cup Intercollegiate, the 'Jacks will take a couple weeks off before heading to Arlington, Texas, for the Waterchase Invitational. The Waterchase Invitational will be Monday, Oct. 1 through Tuesday, Oct. 2.
