Ladyjack Golf Finishes Fifth at SHSU Invitational

The Stephen F. Austin women's golf team recorded one their best finishes in program history when they fired a 316-310 - 626 to finish fifth overall in the SHSU/Harold Funston Invitational at the par 71 Raven's Nest Golf Club in Huntsville, Texas. The Lumberjacks ended the tournament with a two-day score of 296-301 - 597 to place ninth overall.
The Ladyjacks were led by junior Chelsea Simmons who carded a six-over par 148 to finish among the field's top 10. Sophomore Aliece Anderson was only two strokes back of Simmons with a two round 75-75 - 150 finishing tied for 11th. Sophomore Rose Henderson was the lone Ladyjack among the top four to not improve upon her opening round score, but still recorded the team's third-lowest round (81-82 - 163). Henderson finished the tournament 33rd overall. Junior Allison Flake cut four strokes off her opening-round score to finish tied for 37th overall (85-81 - 166).
The Lumberjacks were led by junior Mitchell McLeroy and freshman Blake Pugh. Both players finished the tournament with a four-over 146 to finished tied for 18th. While McLeroy opened the tournament with a one-over par 72, and closed out the tournament with a three-over 74, Pugh recorded the team's lowest round carding a one-under 70 Tuesday morning finishing tied with McLeroy.
The Lumberjacks return to action Sunday when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the Lone Star Invitational. The Ladyjacks will be in Springfield, Mo., Monday to open play in the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial.
