'Jacks Host Crown Classic

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team will be in Lufkin, Texas, Monday and Tuesday hosting the 2012 Lumberjack Crown Classic at the Crown Colony Golf. Play will begin at 8 a.m. both days on the 6,692-yard, par 72 course.

The youthful Lumberjack squad is looking to continue its strong play carried over from the final round of the UTSA/Lone Star Invitational in San Antonio, Texas two weeks ago. After opening the tournament 13th, of 15 teams, the Lumberjacks rallied on the final day to finish eighth.

The Lumberjacks also have one runner-up finish to their credit during the fall season. As a team, the 'Jacks just missed the title, but returning All-Southland Conference selection, and 2012 NCAA Regional qualifier Mitchell McLeroy fired a seven-under par 137 to earn a share of the individual title at McNeese State.

SFA will play host to seven other schools, as conference opponents McNeese State, Nicholls State and Sam Houston State come to town, along with Louisiana-Monroe, UTPA, New Orleans and Oklahoma Christian.

Results will be loaded onto the SFA athletics web site, sfajacks.com, at the end of each day.
