MONROE, La. -- THe Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (7-6, 1-1) fell to the Lady Indians of UL-Monroe Thursday night, 79-72 after being outscored 14-7 over the final three minutes of the game. The score was tied at 40-40 at halftime and was close throughout the second half with SFA holding a five point lead as late as the 4:00 mark of the second half. UL-Monroe fought back to tie the score at 65-65, then outscored the Ladyjacks 14-7 over the final 3:15 of the game for the win.
UL-Monroe dominated the boards in the game, outrebounding SFA 51-40 on the night. The two teams were almost equal in every other statistic, but he boards and 10 more free throws by the Lady Indians spoiled things for SFA. Aishie Banks led the Lady Indians with a double-double, scoring 18 points and pulling down a game high 11-rebounds.
The free throw line provided the margin of difference in the game as the Lady Indians were 29-37 (.784) for the game, while the Ladyjacks were 20-27 (.741). Those nine points provided UL-Monroe the cushion for the win.
Stacy Szymanski led four Ladyjacks in double figures with a career high 19-points and also tied for the team lead with seven rebounds. Brittany Vinson also added 12 points and seveon boards, while LaToya Mills had 13 points and Kirby Killingsworth added 11 for SFA.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Huntsville, against Sam Houston.
