NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin built a 10-point halftime lead and never looked back, leading by as many as 20 in defeating Northwestern State 68-51 at William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks improved to 15-11 overall and 9-5 in Southland Conference play, remaining tied for third in the conference standings.
SFA shot 50.0 percent for the game, marking the fourth time this season the Ladyjacks have hit at least half of their shots, while forcing 18 Demon (14-12, 7-7) turnovers. SFA also shot 47.1 percent from 3-point range (8-of-17), its third-highest percentage of the season from beyond the arc.
Porsha Roberts led the way for SFA with 18 points and seven rebounds while Brentney Branch matched her career-best with 13 points in the victory, hitting three of her six 3-point attempts. Kali Jerrell set a season-best as well with 11 points with Daylyn Harris adding eight points and six rebounds. Tierany Henderson added a career-best six assists while notching six points as well.
The Ladyjacks are now 14-2 on the season when holding their opponents to 60 or fewer points. SFA is 9-0 in conference play in those games as well.
Northwestern State entered the game as the only team in the Southland Conference to average more assists than turnovers in league play. The Ladyjacks were able to disrupt the Demons offense and forced 18 turnovers resulting in 18 SFA points.
SFA hits the road next week for games at New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana as the battle for position in the conference standings heats up before returning home to close the regular season against Oral Roberts and Central Arkansas.
