SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Despite sophomore forward Daylyn Harris' career-high 16 points and 15 more from sophomore center Porsha Roberts, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were unable to overcome a huge first half deficit and fell 75-64 to the Cal Poly Mustangs on the first day of the Cal Poly Thanksgiving Tournament.

Roberts registered her second double-double of the season (15 points, 12 rebounds), the fifth of her young career.

SFA (3-2) shot a season-low 30 percent from the field and Cal Poly received double-digit scoring performances from Brittany Woodard (18 points), Kayla Griffin (16 points) and Caroline Reeves (12 points).

Despite trailing by as much as 22 points early in the second half, the Ladyjacks were able to dwindle the Cal Poly lead all the way deficit to 70-63 with 23 seconds remaining but the Mustangs were able to close out the contest by making their free throws.

Cal Poly (3-2) had a big advantage at the free throw line, connecting on 34-of-44 attempts compared to just 14-of-23 for the Ladyjacks. SFA also struggled from the three-point line where they made just 8-of-27 attempts (30 percent).

SFA dug themselves a huge hole in the first half, entering the locker room at halftime trailing 39-18. The Cal Poly defense held SFA to just 21 percent (6-of-29) shooting in the first half while the Mustangs shot 46 percent from the floor. Both Griffin and Reeves scored 10 points apiece in the first 20 minutes while Taryn Garza chipped in six points.

Cal Poly used an 11-0 run over a five minute stretch to open up a 21-9 lead with 7:15 remaining in the opening half. During that run SFA went 0-for-6 from the field, had two turnovers and two missed free throws. Sophomore Ashley Bettis was able to connect on two three-pointers to lead the Ladyjacks with six first half points, followed by five from Roberts.

The Ladyjacks will be back in action tomorrow when they play their second and final game of the Cal Poly Thanksgiving Tournament against CSU Bakersfield at 4 p.m. (CT).
