FORTH WORTH, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s basketball team was attempting to hand the TCU Horned Frogs their first loss at home this season and came up just short. The Ladyjacks led at halftime 28-27 and limited TCU’s offense. In the second half, SFA could not contain TCU’s secondary scorer as the Horned Frogs pulled away for the 60-52 win.

Tierany Henderson had the hot hand for the Ladyjacks putting up her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Henderson drained four 3-pointers on the night and had five offensive rebounds along with four assists.

TCU (5-3) had three players score in double digits after only one player made more than one basket in the first half. Zahna Medley entered the game averaging 17.1 points and posted 16 from her point guard position. In the second half, Natalie Ventress got hot from long range, hitting three shots beyond the arc and four more to tally a team-high 17 points. Latricia Lovings joined them in double digits with 12 points, shooting a perfect 6-of-6 at the free-throw line. Lovings had a double-double for TCU swatting away 10 shots.

SFA (3-5) dominated the glass, winning the rebounding battle 42-33. The Ladyjacks managed to pull down more offensive rebounds than on the defensive end of the floor. Those 25 offensive rebounds would only result in 10 second chance points as SFA could not capitalize on its extra opportunities.

The Ladyjacks struggled to get the ball inside and force TCU into fouling and putting SFA at the line. SFA was only 3-of-9 at the free-throw line compared to TCU’s 13-of-16. It marks a season-low for both free throws made and attempted for SFA.

Brittney Matthew also scored in double digits for SFA as she put up 10 points. Porsha Roberts added eight points for the Ladyjacks and had nine rebounds, seven of them on offense.

The Ladyjacks will hit the road again this weekend for a game against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at 2 p.m. Sunday.
