HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks suffered their third straight loss in a 60-41 setback to the Rice Owls Saturday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice held the Ladyjacks (4-5) to a season-low in points, matching their output at Oklahoma State, and just 27 percent shooting from the field.
For a second straight game, SFA junior transfer K.K. Jarrell led the Ladyjacks in scoring with 10 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. Rice was in led in scoring by C-USA Preseason Player of the Year Jessica Kuster and sophomore forward Christal Porter, each of which scored 20 points as the game's high-scorers.
The Owls (5-4) did quite a bit of damage on the offensive glass, out-rebounding the Ladyjacks 19-14 which resulted in 14 second-chance points. Rice limited the Ladyjacks to just 2-of-16 shooting from three-point territory (13 percent).
The Ladyjacks fell behind by as many as 18 points in the first half (26-8) but were able to chip away and cut the deficit to 33-22 going into halftime. SFA shot just 22 percent in the first 20 minutes and was led in scoring by both Ashlee Mells and Jerrell with five points apiece. Rice got double-digit performances from both Palmer (12 points) and Kuster (11 points) and shot 34 percent from the floor as a team.
SFA will play their sixth and final game of a season-long six-game road trip on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at SMU with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
