FOR STARTERS: For the first time since 2007, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks won a first round game in the Southland Conference Tournament, defeating Lamar 73-64 Tuesday evening. It was the Ladyjacks second victory over the Lady Cardinals this season and just their second against Lamar in the past eight matchups.

LAST TIME OUTFor the first time since 2007, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks are advancing to the second round of the Southland Conference Tournament. Fourth-seeded SFA defeated No. 5 Lamar Tuesday in a gritty, 73-64 victory, marking the first win in tournament play for the current senior class. The Ladyjacks had four players in double figures, including a team-high 16 points from senior Tammara Marion. SFA also got double-digit performances from Porsha Roberts (15 points), Courtney Conwright (12 points) and Amina Sawyer (10 points).

THE COLONELSThe Nicholls State University women's basketball team set a program and tournament record with 14 3-pointers as the Colonels upset top-seed Central Arkansas, 79-59, on Tuesday night at the Merrell Center in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament. Sophomore LiAnn McCarthy led the Colonels to its first ever victory in the SLC Tournament, scoring a career-high 32 points, including seven 3-pointers. As a team, Nicholls scorched the nets from behind the arc, finishing the night 14-of-25.

vs NICHOLLS STATE: This will be the first time that the Ladyjacks have ever faced Nicholls State in the Southland Conference Tournament. SFA owns a demanding 38-4 advantage in the series, however it was Nicholls State who devastated SFA back on Feb. 8 when the Ladyjacks turned the ball over up two with just seconds remaining only to see the Colonels sink a game-winning three-pointer with three seconds left in the game for a 64-64 defeat.

COVERAGE: Thursday's game will be available on a variety of platforms, including on the radio on Q107.7 FM. It will also be televised in Nacogdoches on MYTX (Channel 8 on Suddenlink). You can also stream the game on ESPN3.com or watch on ESPN Full Court PPV.

THE IDES OF MARCH: The Ladyjacks are looking to win their 16th SLC tournament title and make their 19th appearance in the NCAA Championships.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT: The 2012 SLC tournament marks the 25th consecutive trip to the conference playoffs for SFA. In fact, SFA has advanced to the league tournament every year since joining the league in 1988.

22 WINS: SFA's 22 wins are the most by the program since the 2005-06 squad that went 23-8. That squad went on to win the Southland Conference Tournament and is the last Ladyjack team do so.

TRIO EARNS ALL-CONFERNECE HONORS: Senior guard Tammara Marion earned her third consecutive All-Southland Conference selection, making the second-team for the first time in her illustrious career. The Houston, Texas native had made the third-team in both the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons. Freshman center Porsha Roberts was selected the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year, becoming just the fourth Ladyjack in school history to win the award and the first since LaToya Mills in 2002-03. Junior transfer Ashlee Mells becomes just the second player in SFA history to be selected the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, joining Lori Davis from the 1989-90 campaign.
