Ladyjacks Game Notes: vs. Texas A&M-CC
March 8, 2013
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Stephen F. Austin
FOR STARTERS: SFA (12-16, 7-10) closes out the regular season today against the Islanders, a team they’ve had success against in their history. The Ladyjacks are 12-2 all-time against A&M-Corpus Christi, including a 66-47 victory over the Islanders earlier this season in Corpus Christi.
LAST TIME OUT: Despite Porsha Roberts ninth double-double of the season, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks were unable to overcome for Sam Houston State Bearkats scoring in double-figures in a 76-68 loss Thursday evening at William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA was hurt by the Bearkats ability to get to and succeed at the free throw line, making a staggering 33-of-38 attempts.
COVERAGE: Saturday's game will be video streamed and have live stats on sfajacks.com. The game will also be on the radio on Q107.7 FM with James Dixon on the call, as well as q1077.com. As always, Twitter updates will be provided throughout at @SFA_WBB.
ROBERTS LEADING THE WAY: After just two double-doubles all of last season, sophomore center and reigning SLC Freshman of the Year Porsha Roberts has already registered nine this season and three straight after her 21 point, 12 rebound performance against SHSU.
DATE WITH SUGAR BEARS IN KATY: The Ladyjacks Southland Conference Tournament first-round opponent has already been determined following Saturday’s results. No. 7 SFA will face No. 6 Central Arkansas in Katy on Wednesday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. The Ladyjacks played UCA in the SLC Tournament back in 2011, falling to the Sugar Bears 64-58 in the first round.
BENCH PRODUCTION: SFA has done a tremendous job all season of getting production off their bench and are averaging 22.4 points per game compared to just 11.0 from their opponents.
AVOIDING THE COLD START: SFA has struggled out of the gate in conference games this season, holding a halftime lead in just three of the 15 games thus far. Overall the Ladyjacks are just 3-14 this season when trailing at the half.
KEEP 'EM UNDER 60: SFA held NSU to just 44 points last Saturday, helping run the Ladyjacks overall record to 8-1 when their opponents score less than 60 points.
