NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team had their annual Academic Shootout on Thursday, March 7, when the Ladyjacks fell 64-50 to Sam Houston State at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.

The Purple Pride Fast Break Booster Club raised over $13,000 dollars with the funds going to help pay for the Ladyjacks' summer school classes and fifth-year student scholarships. The Nacogdoches Rotary Club also contributed $2,500 towards the cause.

“Summer school for student-athletes has become so important because it allows incoming freshmen to get a head start and assists our upper classmen in graduating on time,” Stephen F. Austin Athletic Director Robert Hill said. “The Academic Shootout provides necessary funds to get this done. The academic success that our women’s teams have enjoyed is due in part to the Shootout. We are so thankful to have individuals who believe as we do that academics come first and have given their time and money to make the Shootout a success. I want to give a special thanks to Dr. Jane Robertson, who has worked tirelessly on this project. Without her we would not be where we are today.”
