FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The pairings for the 2013 Preseason Women's National Invitationa Tournament were announced on Tuesday with the unveiling that the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks will open the 2013-14 campaign at LSU on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. (CT).

“We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Preseason WNIT and test ourselves against three quality opponents," SFA head coach Brandon Schneider said. "Opening our season at LSU will be an exciting and formidable challenge.”

The Ladyjacks are 8-7 all-time versus LSU and the two teams have not played each other since 2000 when the Lady Tigers defeated SFA, 57-45.

LSU is coming off of its most successful postseason since 2008, as the Nikki Caldwell-coached Tigers (22-12) made it to the Sweet 16. National Player of the Year candidate Theresa Plaisance, who led the SEC in scoring with 17.0 ppg last year and was fourth with 8.3 rebounds a game, heads up the veteran team.

The winner of the SFA/LSU game will then face the winner of Saint Joseph's/Mount St. Mary's in round two on Nov. 10/11.

Ten of the 16 teams in the Preseason WNIT are coming off of NCAA Tournament appearances. The field features Georgia State, Gonzaga, Idaho, IPFW, Louisville, Loyola Chicago, LSU, Mount St. Mary’s, North Carolina A&T, Oklahoma, Quinnipiac, Saint Joseph’s, Stephen F. Austin, Stetson, Tennessee-Martin, and Wichita State.

The Preseason WNIT features a three-game guarantee format. The event opens Nov. 8 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 10-11; semifinals will be Nov. 14; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 17.  Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 15-16. All games are hosted by participating schools.  The official tournament bracket with first-round opponents, game dates and times will be announced next month.

The championship game will be nationally televised LIVE in HD on CBS Sports Network at 4pm ET on Sunday, Nov. 17.

In last year’s Preseason WNIT, North Carolina defeated Iowa 77-64 in the championship game. Two years ago, No. 1 Baylor defeated No. 2 Notre Dame on the way to history’s only perfect 40-0 season.

The Preseason WNIT began in its modern form in 1994. It is organized and produced by Triple Crown Sports, a national sports event company based in Fort Collins, Colo. For more information on the WNIT visit: www.womensnit.com.

The Ladyjacks are coming off a 2012-13 campaign in which they went 14-17 and advanced to the second round of the Southland Conference Tournament. SFA will return nine letterwinners while incorporating five newcomers.
