NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
Ashlee Mells becomes the second addition to the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack roster under first-year head coach Brandon Schneider. A 5-8 guard, Mells will have two years of eligibility remaining at SFA.
"Ashlee is a left-handed, athletic scoring guard who can stretch the defense with her three-point range as well as get to and finish at the rim," said Schneider. "We feel she really fits our style of play on both ends of the floor, and we're excited to have her join the Ladyjack family. We're counting on her being an impact player beginning in the 2011 season."
One of the top-rated high school players in the country coming out of high school, Mells spent that last two seasons at Indiana. During her sophomore season in Bloomington, Mells averaged 4.1 points and 1.6 rebounds per game in 27 contest for the Hoosiers. She also averaged better than 12 minutes per contest during the 2009-10 season.
Mells averaged 15 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game as a senior at South Grand Prairie High School, where she garnered McDonald's All-America recognition. A former district player of the year, Mells was ranked as the 87th best player in the country according to Dan Olson's Collegiate Girls' Basketball Report.
