NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin assistant women's basketball coach Andy Majors was named assistant head coach entering the 2013-14 athletic year, head coach Brandon Schneider announced Thursday afternoon.
"We are making known to the public, what our program has known from the beginning and that is that Andy (Majors) is an integral part in our success," Schneider said. "From recruiting, scouting, game preparation and on the floor coaching, he works hard so that this team is prepared week in and week out to win. It's a promotion in title that was well deserved and earned through his hard work."
Majors enters his fourth season alongside Schneider, after a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Pittsburg State.
"When he told me about the promotion I was excited," Majors said. "The move up doesn't change my responsibilities as a coach, it only makes me more hungry to keep working hard to take this program to the next level."
In the 2011-12 season, he helped guide the Ladyjacks to the Southland Conference Tournament Championship and a 23-win season. The increase in 11 wins from the 2010-11 season (12) to 2011-12 (23) was tied for the sixth-biggest turnaround in the nation.
