Schneider Announces 2012-13 Schedule
Aug. 21, 2012
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Third-year head coach Brandon Schneider has announced the release of the upcoming 2012-13 schedule for the Ladyjacks basketball team.
Along with 18 Southland Conference contests, the Ladyjacks schedule also features non-conference contests against the likes of Louisiana-Monroe, Cal Poly, Cal State Bakersfield, Oklahoma State, Rice, SMU and Tulsa.
“We feel that the Southland Conference will be the strongest it’s been at any point in recent history,” Schneider said. “It will be a senior-laden league filled with outstanding players and terrific coaches. We are hopeful that our difficult, road-heavy, non-conference schedule will prepare us for the many challenges we will face January thru March.”
Following a home exhibition against Howard Payne on Nov. 2, four of SFA’s first five games will take place at Johnson Coliseum beginning with the season opener against Louisiana-Monroe on Nov. 2, the second part of a home and home following last season’s 68-58 victory in Monroe, La. last season.
The Ladyjacks will then make their first road trip of the season to Prairie View A&M on Nov. 13 before returning home for games against Wiley College (Nov. 17) and Northwood (Nov. 20).
SFA will then embark on a six-game non-conference road trip that stretches from Nov. 23-Dec. 19, starting with a trip to the West Coast to partake in the Cal Poly Thanksgiving Tournament in San Luis Obispo, CA. The Ladyjacks will first face the Cal Poly Mustangs (Nov. 23) followed by the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners (Nov. 24).
The Ladyjacks will then open December with a game at Grambling State on Dec. 1 before a showdown against Big 12 foe Oklahoma State in Stillwater, OK on Dec. 6. It will mark the first time that SFA will play the Cowgirls since the 1998-99 season when the Ladyjacks defeated OSU 82-68 in Nacogdoches.
SFA will close their non-conference portion of their schedule and the 2011 calendar year with a home game against Tulsa on Dec. 30. The Ladyjacks will be seeking a bit of revenge against the Hurricane, who handed SFA their worst loss (72-53) of the 2011-12 campaign.
Southland Conference play will open up Jan. 3 when the Ladyjacks host Lamar, followed by a rematch of the SLC Tournament Championship against McNeese State at Johnson Coliseum on Jan. 5.
SFA will then face one of their most challenging weeks of the season when they play three road games in one week beginning with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 7), followed by road trips to Central Arkansas (Jan. 10) and new-conference foe Oral Roberts (Jan. 12). That three-game conference road trip is one of three different three-game road swings the Ladyjacks will encounter in 2012-13.
SFA will then return to Nacogdoches for a short, two-game homestand versus Southeastern Louisiana (Jan. 17) and Nicholls State (Jan. 19) before heading back on the road for the second three-game road swing at Northwestern State (Jan. 26), McNeese State (Jan. 30) and Lamar (Feb. 2).
The Ladyjacks return home Feb. 7 for another two-game homestand against UCA on Feb. 7, followed by ORU’s first trip to SFA as a member of the SLC on Feb. 9. SFA will then again play three-consecutive road contests at Nicholls State (Feb. 14), Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 16) and Sam Houston State (Feb. 20).
The Ladyjacks will close the regular season with three consecutive home games starting with Northwestern State on March 2, followed by a showdown with Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State on March 7 and then Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Senior Night March 9.
