Ladyjacks' Basketball Has First Practice

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Thursday marked the first official practice for the 2012-13 Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks basketball team.

The Ladyjacks begin their quest for a conference championship seven months after making tremendous progress last season, finishing the 2011-12 campaign with a 23-10 overall record (11-5 in Southland Conference play), and a trip to the SLC Conference Tournament Championship.

SFA returns 10 players from last season's squad, which inculded the reigning Southland Conference Freshman of the Year Porsha Roberts along with the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year Ashlee Mells. Also returning is Ashley Bettis (Sophomore, Guard), Annette Davis (Junior, Forward), Daylyn Harris (Sophomore, Forward), Tierany Henderson (Sophomore, Forward), Brittney Matthew (Sophomore, Guard), Wykeia Sanders (Senior, Center), Sha Turner (Junior, Forward) and Iemah Wallace-Perry (Sophomore, Guard).

The 2012-13 Ladyjacks will boast five newcomers in Antionette Carter (Junior transfer, Forward, Murray State College), Kali Jerrell (Junior transfer, Guard, Howard College), LaNesha Middleton (Freshman, Forward, Stillwater HS), Victoria Pena (Freshman, Guard, Edinburg North HS) and Paulletta Powell (Freshman, Guard, Port Arthur Memorial HS).

SFA will kick the season off Nov. 2 when they host Howard Payne in an exhibition at 7 p.m. at William R. Johnson Coliseum.
