FOR STARTERS: SFA returns to Nacogdoches for their second home game of the 2012-13 season when they face Wiley College Saturday at noon. SFA will be looking to start the season with a 3-0 record for a second-straight season.
LAST TIME OUT: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks closed the final three minutes of regulation on an 11-5 run to propel themselves to a 62-55 victory on the road against Prairie View A&M Tuesday evening at the William Nicks Building. SFA (2-0) was led in scoring sophomore guard Brittney Matthew (11 points) who was one of seven Ladyjacks to contribute six or more points.
THE WILDCATS: Wiley College, a NAIA member, has started the season 4-0 and is led by forward Aliesha Carruthers, who is averaging 21.0 points per game and is coming off a 34-point performance against Tougaloo (Miss.) on Tuesday.
vs WILEY COLLEGE: Last season SFA defeated Wiley 59-57 in Nacogdoches in the two schools first ever meeting.
COVERAGE: Saturday's game will be streamed for free on www.sfajacks.com. Also for all in-game social media follow the new women's basketball Twitter account (@SFA_WBB).
BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: SFA is 2-0 despite trailing at the half in both games this season thanks to superb second half play. The Ladyjacks outscored both ULM and PVU by a combined score of 81-44 in the second half in the first two contests. Much of that success has come from the Ladyjacks ability to get to the free throw line. SFA shot just 16 total first-half free throws (10-of-16) through two games compared to 46 free throw attempts (34-of-46) in the second-half.
SECOND UNIT SUCCESS: In just a short sample size SFA looks to be deep up and down the roster yet again. Thus far SFA's second-unit has outscored their opponents, 62-30, led by junior transfer K.K. Jarrell (11.5 ppg).
UP NEXT: Following Saturday the Ladyjacks will next take on Northwood (Texas) on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 5:30 p.m. That will mark the second to last non-conference home game of the 2012 calendar year. SFA will embark on a six-game non-conference road trip Nov. 23-Dec. 19 before returning home to play Tulsa on Dec. 30.
