Nov. 19, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks basketball team heads west this week for a midweek nonconference matchup with the Arizona Wildcats. Tip is set for 8 p.m. Central as the Ladyjacks are looking for a valuable win over an opponent from a power conference and to take the all-time series lead over Arizona.
Arizona (1-2) enters the contest after a series of close games to open the season. The Wildcats lost their first two games of the year at the Iona Tip-Off Tournament in overtime before rebounding with a win on the road at UC Santa Barbara by just two points.
The Ladyjacks are fresh off their first victory of the year as well after coming from behind over the closing minutes to defeat Georgia State on Saturday at home. SFA trailed by as many as 13 points with nine minutes remaining in the contest. The Ladyjacks chipped away at the deficit and were able to grab their first lead of the game with 46 seconds left before sealing the victory at the free-throw line and winning 66-60.
These two teams have met twice before with Arizona winning the first meeting in 1998 by the score of 90-76. SFA won the next match in 2001 in a close battle, 68-66.
SFA’s Porsha Roberts enters the game averaging 22.0 points per game as she ranks third in the Southland Conference early in the season. She also leads the league in blocked shots with six and 2.0 per game.
