FOR STARTERS: SFA is about to play their fifth game of a six-game road trip that started back on Nov. 23. The Ladyjacks are 4-3 all-time versus Rice and won last year’s meeting, 68-64 in Nacogdoches.
LAST TIME OUT: The No. 16 Oklahoma State Cowgirls proved to be quite the challenge for the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks, handing SFA an 85-41 loss Thursday evening at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Ladyjacks played their fourth contest of a current six-game road trip, managed to shoot just 26 percent from the floor for the game compared to 46 percent from the Cowgirls.
THE OWLS: The Owls play their second game in less than 48 hours as Stephen F. Austin comes to Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice is coming off of a 68-42 victory over Chicago State, and a win would give the Owls their longest non-conference winning streak since 2010-11. Rice is led by C-USA Preseason Player of the Year Jessica Kuster, who is averaging 17.4 ppg and 10.4 rpg.
COVERAGE: Saturday's game will be broadcast on local radio on Q107.7 FM and can be streamed at q1077.com. The game will be video streamed on www.riceowls.com but there is a $9.95 monthly charge. Live stats will also be available on riceowls.com. As always, Twitter updates will be provided throughout at @SFA_WBB.
ROBERTS LEADING THE WAY: Despite a scoreless performance at Oklahoma State due mostly to foul issues, Porsha Roberts has increased her scoring average of over +5.0 points per game, the largest increase amongst the Ladyjacks. The sophomore is averaging 14.4 ppg on .587 percent shooting, which is the highest shooting percentage in the Southland Conference.
PRESEASON PICKS: SFA was picked to finish second in the Southland Conference Preseason Coaches Poll and fourth in the Sports Information Directors Poll.
UP NEXT: The Ladyjacks will wrap up their six-game roadtrip by traveling to SMU on Dec. 19 for a 7 p.m. tipoff. SFA will then finally return home on Dec. 30 to face Tulsa.
