JONESBORO, Ark. - The No. 13 Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks bowling team opened the 2013 calendar year with a perfect 5-0 mark in quad baker play Friday, on day one of the ASU Mid-Winter Invitational at the Jonesboro Bowling Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
The Ladyjacks (27-15) defeated No. 15 Valparaiso (990-867), Louisiana Tech (903-857), No. 3 Vanderbilt (1147-1086), No. 7 Arkansas State (1055-1022) and Alabama A&M (1033-923).
SFA was one of only two teams in the 16-team tournament to go undefeated on the day, the other being No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
No stranger to competition, the ‘Jacks are one of nine teams in the field that are nationally ranked. Besides opponents already played, other ranked teams include No. 1 Central Missouri, No. 4 Sam Houston State, No. 6 Nebraska, No. 9 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 20 Alabama State.
The Ladyjacks will resume play Saturday, with five team-game matches before a best of seven bracket play on Sunday. Seedings for the bracket will be determined by total pin fall from over the first two days.
