    SFA Rallies To Sit Fourth at Music City Classic

    SMYRNA, Tenn. – After dropping its first two matches of the day, Stephen F. Austin rallied to win its final three and currently sits in fourth place at the 2014 Music City Classic.

    The Ladyjacks finished the opening day of the tournament with a pin count of 4,730, sitting fourth among the challenging 29-team field which includes 19 of the top-20 teams in the latest NTCA rankings. SFA holds a 61-pin lead on fifth-place Saint Francis while trailing top-ranked Arkansas State by 124 pins for third place.

    SFA opened the day facing Fairleigh Dickinson, who currently sits atop the tournament leaderboard. The Knights edged out a 787-746 victory over the Ladyjacks, winning three of the four games, as SFA’s sole victory came in game two (223-197).

    The Ladyjacks then went head-to-head with Monmouth and fell behind 412-390 after the first two games. The Hawks then took the third 214-165 before forcing a 170-170 tie in the fourth, handing the Ladyjacks a 796-725 defeat.

    After an open round, SFA regained its composure and responded by dropping just one of its final 12 games, beginning with an 849-764 victory over St. Francis-Brooklyn. The Ladyjacks won all four games of the match, eclipsing the 200-pin mark three times and bowling a 225 in both the first and fourth games to clinch the victory.

    Facing Kutztown in the fourth match of the day, SFA took the opening two sets 178-160 and 191-175. After dropping the third 212-187 and holding a slim 556-547 lead, the Ladyjacks closed out the Bears with a 203-183 decision in the fourth, earning the 759-730 victory.

    The final match of the day pitted SFA against Howard as the Ladyjacks dominated the Bison from the opening frame. After a pair of 189s in the opening two games, SFA notched 201 and in the third and a day-best 233 in the final game to defeat Howard 812-607.
