SFA Closes Out Music City Classic in Eighth

SMYRNA, Tenn. - Stephen F. Austin closed out the 2014 Music City Classic with an eighth-place finish among the 29-team field. The Ladyjacks posted an 0-3 record in the best-of-seven baker bracket matches, finishing 6-8 on the weekend, and ranking sixth among the field in total pins (10,388).
SFA opened up the final day of competition against Wisconsin-Whitewater, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Warhawks. The Ladyjacks weren't able to reach the 200-pin mark, bowling a match-high 180 in the second game.
The Ladyjacks then drew Nebraska and quickly fell behind 3-0 to the Cornhuskers through the first three games. SFA rallied for a 248-205 victory in game four, followed by a 228-190 decision in the fifth, but the Ladyjacks couldn't finish the comeback, falling 226-198 in the sixth game to drop the match 4-2.
SFA's final match of the day pitted the Ladyjacks against Central Missouri and once again SFA had to play from behind, dropping the first game to the Jennies 178-169. The Ladyjacks would take the second 202-192, then dropped both the third and fourth. Facing an elimination game, SFA notched a 245-179 victory in the fifth, but Central Missouri finished off the Ladyjacks with a 214-167 victory in the sixth, handing SFA the 4-2 defeat.
SFA closed out the tournament in eighth place as the Ladyjacks have yet to finish out of the top-10 this season. SFA finished one spot ahead of rival Sam Houston State with Valparaiso placing 10th.
Vanderbilt captured the team title on its home lanes, bowling a perfect 300 in the final game of the day to defeat Arkansas State. Maryland-Eastern Shore finished third with Fairleigh Dickinson and Nebraska rounding out the top-five.
SFA now prepares for the USBC sectionals, which will be held in Fort Worth on March 14-16. The Ladyjacks will hope to secure a berth to the 2014 USBC national tournament, being held April 15-18 in Reno, Nev.
