Bowling Wraps Up 2014 USBC Team USA Trials

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- A handful of Stephen F. Austin bowlers have wrapped up competition at the 2014 USBC Team USA Trials in Las Vegas, Nev. The five-day event began on Saturday as 105 bowlers competed for a chance to qualify for both the USA National and Junior National Teams.
Senior Nicole Parkhurst was the top SFA finisher, placing 19th overall with a 199.83 average. Parkhurst's best showing came in round two where she finished seventh after compiling a 206.17 average for the round and notched a tournament-high score of 258 in round three.
Freshman Kiara Grant came on strong over the final two days of the event, placing 62nd overall with an average score of 187.87. After opening up the trials by placing 30th in round one, Grant notched a 23rd-place finish in round five, including bowling a high of 254 Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore Melanie Crawford placed 73rd overall with a 186.17 average, including a high score of 229 in round three where she averaged 198.67 for the round. She finished just ahead of teammate Paige Kraushaar, who placed 80th overall with a 180.27 average, including a high of 213. SFA signee Kelsi Anderson placed 93rd, compiling a 179.20 scoring average with a high game score of 240.
The tournament consisted of five days of competition with different lane conditions each day. Competitors bowled six games per day, totalling 30 games for the event.
The fifth-ranked Ladyjack bowling team now prepares to open up the spring portion of its 2013-14 season, heading to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State. The three-day event gets underway on Friday, January 17th, wrapping up on Sunday, January 19th.
