NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin is ranked fourth in the latest NCAA/National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) media poll, marking the highest ranking in program history. The Ladyjacks remain fifth in the coaches poll, released last month.
The ranking comes just one week before the Ladyjacks resume their 2013-14 season as SFA will head to Jonesboro, Ark. to compete in the Mid-Winter Invitational, hosted by top-ranked Arkansas State. SFA is coming off a solid showing at the 2014 USBC Team USA Trials in Las Vegas earlier this week, highlighted by Nicole Parkhurst placing 19th out of 105 competitors during the five-day event.
SFA, who boasts a 28-11 record through the fall portion of its schedule, looks to build on the successes of the fall season as the Ladyjacks notched their first tournament victories since the program began during the 2009-10 season. SFA captured the Tulane Invitational on October 20th, followed by a first-place showing at the FDU Jamboree on November 3rd.
Arkansas State sits atop of the media poll, receiving six of the nine first-place votes. Second-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore received the other three with Central Missouri (third) and Fairleigh Dickinson (fifth) joining SFA among the top-five. Southland Conference rival Sam Houston State sits 10th in the standings.
SFA now prepares to open up the spring portion of its 2013-14 season, heading to Jonesboro, Ark., to compete in the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State. The three-day event gets underway on Friday, January 17th, wrapping up on Sunday, January 19th.
