SFA Places Ninth in Final NTCA Poll
April 30, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Stephen F. Austin closes out its memorable 2013-14 season ranked ninth in the final National Tenpin Coaches Association poll. The Ladyjacks match their highest finish after also placing ninth following the 2012-13 season.
SFA is coming off another memorable season as the Ladyjacks are establishing themselves as one of the top teams in the nation after posting a 76-43 record in 2013-14. SFA placed in the top-five in eight of its 10 tournaments on the year, including capturing the first team championships in program history with victories at the Tulane Invitational and the FDU Jamboree.
The Ladyjacks would also finish second at the USBC regionals in Fort Worth, earning a berth to the 2014 USBC national tournament in Reno where SFA advanced to the fourth round before falling to Lindenwood. SFA also reached a program-high when the Ladyjacks climbed to as high as fourth in the NTCA poll back in January, setting a new program-high.
Individually, SFA pulled in a number of accolades as well as senior Nicole Parkhurst was named a second team NTCA All-American, making her the first bowler in SFA history to be named a two-time All-American after earning honorable mention recognition in 2013. Sophomore Melanie Crawford was named a third team All-American and was also honored with the Alberta E. Crowe Star of Tomorrow award, given annually to one up-and-coming female bowler.
SFA now sets its sights on the 2014 Ladyjack Bowling Fundraiser being held this Sunday, May 4th, at Texas Bowl. The cost is $25 per person or $125 for a five-person team as the fundraiser will follow the baker format (five people bowling two frames of each game). The fundraiser gets underway at 1 p.m. and you can contact head coach Amber Lemke for more information.
