HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's bowling team went 4-1 on day one of the inaugural three-day Track Kat Klash Bowling Invitational at the Huntsville Lanes Friday afternoon.

SFA posted victories in Baker total pins play against Monmouth (788-730), Mississippi Valley State (748-601), Alabama State (709-654) and Grambling State (727-605). The Ladyjacks lone loss came in match three against No. 6 Arkansas State (792-760).

"Despite a pretty decent match play record of 4-1 we experienced a lot of up and down performances today," SFA head coach Amber Lemke said. "We were executing great shots and unfortunately not able to capitalize on our spare shots. Chelsea King and Nicole Parkhurst were pretty steady all day and we received a spark in the lineup with Amanda Boethel, who has had limited playing time up until this tournament and really came through at key times today."

Parkhurst led all SFA bowlers with 23 strikes while King had 20 and Boethel finished with 16.

The Ladyjacks stand in sixth place in total pins with 3,732. Arkansas State leads the tournament with 4,204 pins while No. 2 Vanderbilt sits second with 4,080 and Sam Houston St. fills out the top three with 3,977 pins.

    Fifth-ranked Nebraska (4th- 3,864), Monmouth (5th- 3,773), Long Island (7th- 3,670), Louisiana Tech (8th- 3,571), Alabama State (9th- 3,497), Prairie View A&M (10th- 3,486), Texas Southern (11th- 3,312), Jackson State (12th- 3,301), Grambling (13th- 3,078) and Mississippi Valley State (14th- 2,649) rounded out the field on day one.

Total pins standings following Saturday's action will determine the standings for bracket Baker best-of-seven play on Sunday.

The Ladyjacks will be back in action tomorrow with competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. and lasting until 2:30 p.m.

"We are going to build off of our wins today and come out with more focus tomorrow in filling frames. We still have a lot of bowling ahead of us and we are going to focus on winning matches and filling frames for the rest of the tournament."
