Leigh Rush is in her third year in charge of the Stephen F. Austin varsity equestrian program. Heusner had accumulated seven years worth of training and coaching before accepting the head coach position at SFA.

She is the the first coach in the history of the program and led the program to the Varsity Equestrian National Championships in only its second season.

Rush is a lifetime equine competitor, having participated at the AQHA, NRHA, IBHA, 4-H, IHSA and NCAA levels. She earned several high-point and year-end awards in quarter horse associations, reining horse association and 4-H. Rush is a former World Champion in the Buckskin Horse Association. As a collegian, Rush rode at the University of Georgia, where she was named team MVP in 2002-03.

Rush graduated from Georgia in 2003 with a bachelor's of science degree in agricultural economics.
