Former Lumberjack golfer Trey Schroeder is entering his 10th season as the head coach of the Stephen F. Austin men's golf program. He also oversees the Ladyjack golf program as the two teams have become among the top teams in the Southland Conference.
In Schroeder's ninth season coaching the Lumberjacks, the 2014-2015 season came with many "firsts" for the Stephen F. Austin Golf Program. Schroeder's Women's Team brought home its first team title, while the Men's Team recorded the lowest team average in history with a 292.73. Combined, the program also recognized 4 student-athletes as SLC Golfers of the Month for the first time in program history.
In the 2014-2015 season, the Men's Team notched one tournament title, making that the 7th team win for the Men's Program under head coach, Trey Schroeder. Schroeder led two individual men to Third Team SLC Honors. In total, Schroeder has coached 13 men to All-Conference honors from 2008-2015, and one player to All-Region Honors in 2013.
Schroeder started the Women's Golf Program in 2009. Now with the program's sixth season under its belt, the Ladyjacks have proven to be a conference threat. The 2015 season brought Schroeder his first individual SLC Champion, and two other individual tournament titles in addition to the first team win. Two women were also awarded with SLC honors, one First Team and SLC Student-Athlete of the Year, and one Honorable Mention.
The Stephen F. Austin Golf Program has succeeded in the classroom under Schroeder. Schroeder has coached 8 All-American Scholar Athletes from 2010-2015, in continuation to countless golfers receiving SLC All-Academic Honors. In 2013, the Men's Golf Program was recognized with All- Academic Team Awards.
"Our goal is to build the golf program to a level of challenging for the conference title each year and making the NCAA tournament," said SFA Director of Athletics Robert Hill. "I believe Trey can get us there because he is passionate about golf and is willing to put in the time necessary to meet this goal."
Schroeder, a Pflugerville, Texas native, was a 2001 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University and a four-year letter winner for the Men's Golf Team. He guided the Jacks 1999 Southland Conference Championship team, where he finished fourth overall to earn All-SLC honors. He finished his career as a two-time all-conference athlete. Schroeder received his Master's degree, also from SFA, in 2003.
Trey Schroeder and his wife, Lauren, have one son, Cooper, who was born in April of 2015.
