NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – Stephen F. Austin got off to a strong start in its first event of the spring season, posting a 17-over 301 in the first round of the Texas State Invitational to sit tied for fourth. The Ladyjacks had slipped slightly in round two before play was suspended due to darkness at about 6:30 p.m.

In the morning round of the spring-opening event, SFA registered the 17-over 301 on the par-71 course, tying host Texas State for fourth overall. The Ladyjacks and Bobcats were both six strokes back of the tournament lead as Central Arkansas, Georgia Southern and UT-San Antonio all posted 11-over 295s in round one.
Senior Jessie White and sophomore Erica Lautensack paced the Ladyjack scorecard as the duo each registered a 3-over 74 over the opening 18 holes, tying for 13th individually. They were joined in the top-20 by freshman Alexandra Batista’s 4-over 75, tying for 19th.
Fellow freshmen Haleigh Jordan and Paola Cortes closed out the SFA scorecard, firing a 7-over 78 and a 12-over 83, respectively. Senior Courtney Ford made her season debut competing as an individual, posting a 13-over 84.
The afternoon round proved to be slightly more challenging across the board as the Ladyjacks slipped three spots in the standings when play was suspended. SFA is currently sitting at 27-over for the second round, eighth in the team standings, as the Ladyjacks have between two to four holes remaining in round two.
Currently, Lautensack is in the lead for SFA, shooting a 5-over through 13 holes and is at 8-over for the tournament, two strokes ahead of White who is at 10-over for the event, including a 7-over in round two through 13. Batista and Jordan are both four shots back at 14-over, carding a 10- and 7-over through 13 holes.
When play resumes, SFA will find itself four shots back of eighth-place UTEP (40-over) and five shots behind both North Dakota State and North Texas (39-over) who are currently tied for fifth. Host Texas State holds the lead at 25-over, one shot better than UT-San Antonio (26-over). Central Arkansas and Georgia Southern are both at 34-over in a tie for third, five shots better than the Bison and Mean Green in fifth.
The suspended second round will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, followed immediately by the final round of the Texas State Invitational. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com with full results posted to SFAJacks.com as they become available.
