SFA Eighth After Day One at Islander Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Sophomore Sydney Reed paces Stephen F. Austin through the opening two rounds of the Islander Classic, sitting tied for 11th overall with a 7-over 151. SFA heads into Tuesday's final round in eighth-place among the 16-team field, shooting a 48-over 624 through the opening 36 holes.
Reed opened up the day with a 3-over 75, then followed with a 4-over 76 to just miss cracking the individual top-10. She holds a five-stroke lead over freshman Piper Kyle, who is tied for 30th overall with a 12-over 156 (76-80).
Sophomore Mackenzie Steiner enters the final round two shots back of Kyle, tying for 36th with a 14-over 158 (80-78). Freshman Ann Holcomb (81-80) and senior Aliece Anderson (79-82) both carded a 17-over 161 to round out the SFA scorecard.
Heading into Tuesday's final round, SFA remains well within striking distance of a handful of teams in the standings. The Ladyjacks are just one stroke back of seventh-place Northern Illinois (47-over 623) and are six back of sixth-place Oral Roberts (42-over 618) while trailing fifth-place Central Arkansas (41-over 617) by seven shots.
Lamar holds the lead after the opening two rounds, shooting a 21-over 597 and leading second-place Houston Baptist (26-over 602) by five shots. Oklahoma City (30-over 606) sits third with North Texas (39-over 615) and UCA rounding out the top-five.
Tuesday's final round is scheduled to get underway with a shotgun start at 8:15 a.m. as the Ladyjacks will be teamed up with Northern Illinois and rival Sam Houston State in the final round pairings. Full results will be posted at SFAJacks.com as they become available.
