Ladyjacks Sit Ninth in Mississippi

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Stephen F. Austin sits ninth through the first day of the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss. The Ladyjacks fired a 31-over 319 in round one as SFA sets its sights on its seventh top-10 finish of the season.
Freshman Ann Holcomb sits atop the SFA leaderboard, shooting a pair of 39’s to card a 6-over 78 after the opening 18 holes, and is tied for 18th among the individual standings. She leads fellow freshman Piper Kyle by one stroke after Kyle cards a 7-over 79 as she enters Tuesday’s second round tied for 24th overall.
Sophomore Mackenzie Steiner shot a pair of 40’s on the day to finish with an 8-over 80 and is tied for 31st overall with fellow sophomore Sydney Reed finishing with a 10-over 82. Senior Aliece Anderson rounds out the SFA scorecard with a 12-over 84 as Monday was the 102nd round of her Ladyjack career, thing her with Chelsea Simmons for the most rounds played in program history.
SFA heads into Tuesday’s final round with a one stroke lead over 10th-place Alabama-Birmingham (32-over 320) and remains within striking distance of a handful of teams above it in the standings. The Ladyjacks are currently four strokes back of eighth-place Louisiana-Monroe (27-over 315) and five shots back of seventh-place Western Kentucky (26-over 314).
Host Southern Mississippi sits atop the team leaderboard with a 13-over 301, leading second-place Memphis (14-over 302) by one stroke. Southland Conference foe Houston Baptist sits third (16-over 304) is third with South Alabama (19-over 307) and fellow SLC opponent Central Arkansas (20-over 308) rounding out the top-five.
Tuesday’s final round gets underway at 9:00 a.m. as SFA will be teamed up with the Hilltoppers and Warhawks in the final round pairings. Full results will be posted at SFAJacks.com as they become available.
