Kyle Powers Ladyjacks Through Opening Round

ORANGE PARK, Fla. - Freshman Piper Kyle tied her career-low, shooting a 1-over 73 in round one, to lead Stephen F. Austin to a ninth-place showing after the opening round of the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational. SFA shot a 14-over 302, its second-lowest round of the season, through the first 18 holes.
Kyle is currently among an 11-player tie for 12th in the individual standings with the 1-over 73, holding a two-stroke lead on senior Aliece Anderson (2-over 75) who is tied for 34th overall.
Sophomore Sydney Reed sits third on the Ladyjack scorecard after round one with a 4-over 76, two shots better than sophomore teammate Mackenzie Steiner's 6-over 78. Freshman Ann Holcomb rounds out the SFA scorecard with an 11-over 83 through the opening round.
Competing against one of the strongest fields of the season, SFA has held its own in the opening round, sitting just three strokes out of sixth-place. The Ladyjacks trail eighth-place Florida Gulf Coast (13-over 301) by just one stroke and are two shots back of both Wofford College and host James Madison (12-over 300), who are tied for sixth.
Delaware leads the field after 18 holes with a 3-over 291, leading second-place Georgia State (4-over 292) by one stroke and is just two shots ahead of third-place Elon (5-over 293). Western Carolina (7-over 295) and Southern Illinois (8-over 296) round out the top-five, remaining in the hunt.
