    SUGAR LAND, Texas – Led by the freshmen duo of Ann Holcomb and Piper Kyle, Stephen F. Austin moved up one spot over the final day of the 2014 HBU Husky Invitational. The Ladyjacks finished fifth among the 13-team field, posting an 81-over 945.

    SFA closed out the 54-hole event with a 19-over 307 over the final round, shaving 10 strokes off its second-round total of 317. The 307 is tied for the eighth-best round in program history while the 945 currently sits as the 11th-best 54-hole score since the program’s inception in 2009-10.

    Kyle posted the low round of the day for SFA, shooting a 3-over 75 to finish the Husky Invitational at 16-over 232 (78-79-75) and tied for 13th in the individual standings. Joining her in the tie was Holcomb, who shot a 4-over 76 to also finish tied for 13th overall (81-75-76). It marks the third top-20 finish of Kyle’s career while Holcomb recorded her first career top-20 finish.

    Fellow freshman Jessica White placed 34th overall with a 26-over 242 (81-83-78), besting sophomore Sydney Reed by one stroke as Reed carded a 27-over 243 (81-80-82). Senior Aliece Anderson rounded out the SFA scorecard with a 32-over 248 (87-83-78).

    Sophomore Julia Bazaldua tied for 53rd overall competing as an individual, shooting a 33-over 249 (87-82-80). She finished one shot ahead of sophomore teammate Mackenzie Steiner’s 34-over 250 (87-81-82).

    Entering the day two strokes out of fifth-place, SFA made its move with four of the five Ladyjack competitors shooting sub-80 rounds. It was enough to move SFA into the top-five, besting sixth-place Oklahoma City (90-over 954) by nine shots to record the Ladyjacks’ third top-five showing of the season and the eighth in program history.

    Southland Conference foe Lamar pulled away from a three-team tie to capture the team title with a 51-over 915. The Cardinals beat out both Central Arkansas and Louisiana-Monroe, who tied for second with a 58-over 922. Host Houston Baptist placed fourth (68-over 932) with SFA rounding out the top-five.

    The Ladyjacks now prepare for the final event of the 2013-14 regular season, heading to Magnolia for the 2014 Southland Conference Championships. The 54-hole tournament gets underway Tuesday, April 15, before wrapping up on Thursday, April 17 at High Meadow Ranch Golf Club.
