SFA Fifth After Day Two of SLC Championships

MAGNOLIA, Texas – Stephen F. Austin shot a 16-over 314 over the second round of the 2014 Southland Conference Championships as the Ladyjacks have slipped one spot to fifth in the overall team standings. SFA currently sits at 48-over 624, trailing fourth-place Sam Houston State (45-over 621) by three strokes.
Freshman Piper Kyle remains in the hunt for an All-Conference selection as she is tied for second overall with a 5-over 149 after carding a 6-over 78 on the day. Kyle struggled over the front nine holes, shooting a 7-over 43 with a trio of double bogeys, but rebounded on the back nine to card a 1-under 35.
Sophomore Sydney Reed and senior Aliece Anderson are both 10 strokes back of Kyle, sitting at 15-over 159. Anderson matched Kyle for the low round of the day for the Ladyjacks with a 6-over 78 while Reed posted a 10-over 82.
Entering the day in fourth-place overall, SFA added four strokes to their first round total, which was enough to drop the Ladyjacks one spot. SFA trails fourth-place Sam Houston State by three shots while holding a two-shot lead over McNeese State (50-over 626) and a six shot cushion over seventh-place Houston Baptist (54-over 630).
Lamar remains in the lead with a 27-over 603, but the Cardinals’ lead was reduced to five following a solid 9-over 297 round from Oral Roberts who moves into second in the team standings with a 32-over 608. Central Arkansas (36-over 612) sits third with the Bearkats and Ladyjacks rounding out the top-five.
The final round of the 2014 Southland Conference Championship gets underway at 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning as SFA will be teamed up with Sam Houston State and McNeese State in the final round pairings. The Ladyjacks’ final 18 holes begin with White teeing off at 8:50 a.m., leading up to Kyle’s tee time at 9:22 a.m.
