Ladyjacks Tied For Fifth After Day One

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin women’s golf team fired an opening round 304 at the SHSU Harold Funston Invitational Tuesday morning in Huntsville, Texas. The Ladyjacks bettered their morning score by eight strokes (296) to finish the day tied for 5th place. 

The Ladyjacks were led by Freshman Jessica White, who fired the team’s low rounds of the day to finish tied for 6th. White opened the day with a four-over par 75 before closing with a career low even-par 71.

Freshman Piper Kyle (T-18) fired a final round 73 to best her morning score by four strokes. Senior Aliece Anderson finished just one stroke off Kyle’s pace, ending the day tied for 24th (77-74 – 151).

Sophomore Sydney Reed carded an opening round 75, but closed with a second round 80 to finish in 32nd. Senior Rosie Henderson finished the day in 45th, with a day one total of 166.

Competing as a medalist, sophomore Mackenzie Steiner (78-76) currently sits tied for 29th at 146.

The Ladyjacks finished the day with 10 of 12 rounds in the 70’s, while having just one round over 80. SFA will look to grab their first top-five finish of the season in Tuesday morning’s final round.
