Oct. 24, 2012
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - After struggling to a two-round 659 on the opening day of the FedEx Women's Intercollegiate in Memphis, Tenn., the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team rallied for a 309 in the final round. After not having a single player record a sub-80 round Monday, all four scores shot under 80 Tuesday to give the Ladyjacks a 330-329-309 - 968 to finish 10th overall on the par 71 course.
Junior Aliece Anderson and freshman Sydney Reed were carbon copies of each other in Monday's opening two rounds, and that trend continued Tuesday as both golfers recorded a six-over par 77. The duo finished tied for 28th overall with a 239. Senior Chelsea Simmons finished a stroke back (240) to place tied for 33rd.
After recording the high score on the team on day one, freshman Mackenzie Steiner carded a 78 to move into the team's top four. She finished the tournament tied for 58th with a 253. Junior Rose Henderson was unable to find her stroke throughout the tournament placing 65th overall (89-84-86 - 259).
The FedEx Intercollegiate will be the team's final tournament of the fall schedule. SFA will open the spring schedule Monday, Feb. 18, at the McNeese LeTriomphe Collegiate.
