HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. – Stephen F. Austin closed out the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a 10th-place finish at the Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic. The Ladyjacks closed out the event with a 22-over 310, matching its total from round two, and registering a 59-over 923.
Senior Jessie White once again paced SFA, tying for 14th in the individual standings. White shot a 4-over 76 Tuesday, finishing with an 8-over 224, and recording the 15th top-20 showing of her Ladyjack career.
Freshman Alexandra Batista matched White’s final round total, posting a 4-over 76, and tying for 31st overall with a 14-over 230. She finished five shots better than fellow freshman Paola Cortes who recorded a 19-over 235, including a 7-over 79 n round three.
Redshirt sophomore Erica Lautensack and senior Ann Holcomb both finished with a 22-over 238 for the final event of the fall season. Holcomb posted a 7-over 79 over the final 18 holes with Lautensack recording an 8-over 80 to round out the SFA scorecard.
Beginning the day in ninth-place, SFA slipped one spot as Oral Roberts had a the best round of the tournament, posting a 5-over 293 and leapfrogging the Ladyjacks with a 50-over 914. SFA was 11 shots back of eighth-place Little Rock (48-over 912) and 14 back of seventh-place Missouri State (45-over 909), finishing four shots ahead of both Arkansas State and Jacksonville State (63-over 927).
Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas captured the team title, posting a 27-over 891 and defeating UTEP (33-over 897) by six strokes. North Texas (34-over 898) placed third with Missouri-Kansas City and Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State (37-over 901) tying for fourth overall.
SFA closes out the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule looking to build on the momentum gained over the past two months. The Ladyjacks finished among the top-10 in all five events and posted a team scoring average of 304.00. White was the top SFA performer through the first five events, registering a 74.73 scoring average with two top-10 and four top-20 tournaments.
SFA will now take a break for the winter months, returning to action March 6-7, 2017, competing at the UT-Rio Grande Valley Invitational in McAllen, Texas.
