NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Director of Athletics Robert Hill and head coach Trey Schroeder announced the delivery of a new custom sprinter-van, funded entirely by the donations of individuals who support the Stephen F. Austin men’s and women’s golf teams, Friday afternoon.
“First I have to thank the donors who gave the necessary funds and for their understanding of what this new van will do for our teams and especially how it will help recruiting,” Hill said. “This van will surely impact the golf experience for our student-athletes and these donors can take pride in knowing their investment will continue the future success of the SFA golf program.”
The supporters of the program donated almost $80,000 for the van, as it will assist in recruiting and solve past transportation problems.
“I am excited about the benefits it will provide in our recruiting effort,” Schroeder said. “I think it is something that our players will enjoy when we travel for competition and I can not thank the sponsors enough for their contributions, as this would not be possible without their support.”
The 11-passenger van contains six captain’s chairs and a bench seat in the back, all with the SFA logo embroidered on the head rests. The van contains power sources all around the van for plug-ins, along with a 32’’ flat-screen television mounted at the front. The travel van is equipped with surround-sound, a DVD player and HDMI hook-ups.
In the rear of the van is storage, with the capability of safely securing the teams luggage and golf clubs when on the road.
Both the men’s and women’s teams are not slated to compete again until February. The Ladyjacks will next compete in the McNeese Le’Triomphe Collegiate Invitational (Feb. 9-11), while the Lumberjacks wait for the Rice Intercollegiate (Feb. 17-18).
