Opening Tee Stephen F. Austin opens up the spring portion of its 2013-14 schedule heading east to Broussard, La., competing in the 2014 LeTriomphe College Invitational. Hosted by McNeese State, the 54 hole tournament gets underway Sunday before wrapping up Tuesday.
Tournament Information The 2014 LeTriomphe College Invitational will be held at LeTriomphe Golf and Country Club in Broussard, La., a par-72, 6,226-yard course. The 54-hole tournament will be played out over three days with 18 holes being played per day, getting underway at 8 a.m.
Tournament Field The 18-team field is comprised of 16 Division I institutions and nine Southland Conference opponents. Lamar is the highest ranked team competing in the tournament, sitting 96th in the latest GolfStat rankings, followed closely behing by Oral Roberts (100). Weather Forecast The weather shouldn’t be a factor for the first two days of the tournament as temperatures should be in the mid to upper 60s on both Sunday and Monday with low winds. Tuesday’s final round could be impacted, however, as rain is in the forecast with temperatures dipping down into the upper 40s for a daytime high.
SFA at LeTriomphe Invitational 2014 marks the second season SFA has competed at the LeTriomphe Invitational, finishing 10th out of 16 teams in 2013 with a 128-over 992. Senior Sara Jones was the top Ladyjack finisher, tying for 29th overall with a 28-over 244, followed by fellow senior Aliece Anderson finishing tied for 32nd with a 29-over 245.
Last Time Out SFA closed out the 2013-14 fall season with a sixth-place finish at the South Alabama Invitational on November 5th. Sophomore Sydney Reed, who competed as an individual, had the best finish for the Ladyjacks as she tied for 10th overall with an 11-over 155. Fellow sophomore Mackenzie Steiner just missed a top-20 showing as well, tying for 21st overall with a 15-over 159.
Looking Ahead Following this weekend’s tournament in southern Louisiana, SFA will have a couple weeks off before returning to the links in South Texas, participating in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Classic February 24-25.
