Stephen F. Austin resumes its 2016-17 season, competing in the first event of the spring half of the season this week in New Braunfels. The Ladyjacks will compete at the 2017 Texas State Invitational, being held February 13-14, 2017, at the Bandit Golf Club.
The 2017 Texas State Invitational will be a 54-hole event, held at the Bandit Golf Club in New Braunfels. The course will be a par-71, measuring 6,032 yards, and will be comprised of three rounds of shotgun starts. Round one gets underway at 8:30 a.m. Monday morning, followed immediately by round two in the afternoon. The final round will begin Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with pairings based on the performances from Monday’s rounds.
SFA will be one of 16 teams competing in this week’s spring-opening event and will be joined by four other Southland Conference foes in Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Four teams in the field are ranked in the Golfstat top-100 following the fall season, comprised of Boston College (No. 67), Central Arkansas (No. 72), UT-San Antonio (No. 84) and host Texas State (No. 99). The remainder of the field will be filled by Arkansas State, Boise State, Georgia Southern, North Dakota State, Little Rock, North Texas, UTEP and Xavier.

In addition, senior Courtney Ford will be competing as an individual, making her first appearance of the 2016-17 season.
Last Time Out
Stephen F. Austin closed out the fall portion of its 2016-17 schedule with a 10th-place showing at the Little Rock Women’s Golf Classic October 30 – November 1, 2016. The Ladyjacks finished with a 10-over 923 through the event, led by senior Jessie White’s 8-over 224, finishing tied for 14th overall. White had the low round of the tournament for SFA, shooting a 1-under 71 in round two, as SFA registered a 15-over 303 in round one.
SFA posted a strong start to the 2016-17 season, finishing in the top-10 in each of its five events in the fall. The Ladyjacks finished third at both the Oral Roberts Shootout (60-over 912) and the Incarnate Word Lady Cardinal Classic (40-over 892), setting program record for both a low round (292) and low 54-hole tournament (892) at UIW. Individually, senior Jessie White paced the Ladyjacks with a 74.73 scoring average, including a low of 67 and a pair of top-10 showings. In all, SFA had seven top-10 individual showings, including a pair each from sophomore Erica Lautensack and freshman Alexandra Batita and one from freshman Paola Cortes.
Following this weekend’s event in New Braunfels, SFA will head to deep South Texas, competing in the UT-Rio Grande Valley Invitational March 6-7 in McAllen. That leads into the Spring Break Invitational March 14-16, an event SFA co-hosts with Oral Roberts in Trophy Club.
