Ladyjacks at the Islander Classic The tournament in Corpus Christi has been one of the constants on the SFA schedule since the program’s inception five seasons ago. The Ladyjacks will be making their fifth appearance in the Islander Classic, posting their best finish in 2011 when SFA placed ninth out of 16 teams. SFA finished 10th in 2010, 11th in the 2013 installment and 13th in 2012 as the Ladyjacks look to make a run among the top-five in the final team standings.
Last Time Out SFA tied for fifth at the weather-shortened LeTriomphe Classic in Broussard, La., on Feb. 9-10. The Ladyjacks sat sixth after the opening round and were in prime position to make a run after the second round, sitting tied for fifth after 36 holes. But cold and wet conditions canceled the final round, giving the Ladyjacks their second top-five finish and carding the lowest 36-hole tournament score in program history (622). Freshman Ann Holcomb and senior Aliece Anderson were the top SFA finishers, posting a 13-over 157 as Holcomb fired a career-low 77 in round two.
Closing in on 100 Senior Aliece Anderson sits poised to reach an impressive career milestone this coming week at the Islander Spring Classic. Heading into the tournament, Anderson has competed in 98 rounds for the Ladyjacks as a four-year competitor and would become just the second golfer in program history to play in 100 career rounds, closing in on Chelsea Simmons’ program-best 115 career rounds played.
Looking Ahead SFA will have another break in the schedule before heading to Hattiesburg, Miss., to compete in the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational March 10-11, 2014.
