Steiner Receives WGCA All-America Scholar Honors
July 2, 2013
Stephen F. Austin freshman golfer Mackenzie Steiner has been named a 2012-13 All-American Scholar by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). There were 644 golfers named to the team from the NCAA Division I, II and III levels. Student-athletes had to maintain a 3.50 grade-point average just to be nominated for the award.
Steiner is one of only four Southland Conference athletes named to the NCAA Division I list. SFA is one of only two league schools recognized for having an athlete qualify.
Steiner played in six tournaments for the Ladyjacks this past season recording an 81.2 stroke average. Steiner recorded three top-40 finishes for the Ladyjacks as a freshman, and saved one of her best performances for Southland Conference Championships. She fired a 236 at the conference tournament, which tied her for 25th overall and equaled the team's second lowest score.
The Austin, Texas native, carded the team's lowest score at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate during the spring season. She also posted a season-low round of 74 in the third and final round at Kiawah Island.
