NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
A new award named in honor of longtime Stephen F. Austin head athletics trainer Sandy Miller was announced Thursday by director of athletics Robert Hill.
The "Sandy Miller Award" will be presented annually to the student trainer who has been judged the most outstanding over the course of the academic year. The award will be presented during the department's annual Champions Dinner.
Miller is retiring as Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine after 31 years of service at SFA. During that time he has mentored hundreds of student trainers who have gone on to athletic training careers at the high school, collegiate and professional levels of sports.
"I can think of no better way to recognize the contributions Sandy has made to his profession and SFA than to have his name on this award," said Hill.
Announcement of the award was made during a special retirement reception for Miller in the Homer Bryce Stadium Fieldhouse.
