NACOGDOCHES, Texas -
Julia Bazaldua (Arlington, Texas) and Sydney Reed (San Antonio, Texas) have not only chosen to further their education at Stephen F. Austin, but also to become Ladyjacks on the women's golf team, announced head coach Trey Schroeder Friday morning.
"Both of these young ladies are highly motivated individuals who will come in and have an immediate impact," said Schroeder. "Julia comes in as one of the top-ranked players in the state of Texas, while Sydney is more of a raw talent. Both of these women will help take this program to the next level."
Bazaldua is ranked 15th in the state of Texas and 166th in the nation in the class of 2012 after posting a 76.67 stroke average for Mansfield Summit High School. She is three-time first-team all-district and regional-qualifier. Bazaldua has won 12 varsity tournaments and been a three-time team MVP.
Reed is three-time letterwinner at Smithson Valley. She finished fourth in the 2011 Texas State Junior Girls Championship and sixth at the 2011 4A Regional Tournament. Reed then helped lead her time to the UIL 4A State Championships in 2011.
The Ladyjacks just wrapped up their third fall season in program history, and will return to action in February at the Claud Jacobs Invitational.
