Kelly Tarrant Madsen
Kelly Tarrant Madsen enters her fifth season as an assistant coach with SFA in 2015, primarily working with the midfield and forward units. Madsen's main responsibilities off the field include organizing team travel, managing equipment and serving as director of camp operations, in addition to assisting with all day-to-day aspects of the program.
Madsen has helped the Ladyjacks win four consecutive Southland Conference regular season championships in her four seasons at SFA, while compiling a staggering 64-13-5 record (.811 winning percentage) – the best four-year period in program history. In addition to the four regular season conference crowns, Madsen was part of the coaching staff in 2012 that saw the Ladyjacks win the SLC Tournament and qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Working primarily with the midfielders and forwards, Madsen helped coach three of the best offensive weapons in the SLC in 2014. Seniors Chelsea Raymond and Zuri Prince along with freshman Hanna Barker combined for 26 goals and 15 assists on the year to help the Ladyjacks finish second in the league in goals per game (2.25) and assists per game (1.45).
Madsen helped coach Prince to SLC Player of the Year and Barker to SLC Freshman of the Year honors while Raymond set SFA’s new career points total last season, ending her career with 115 total points.
Madsen also serves as the team's academic coordinator. In three of her four years at SFA, the Ladyjacks have received the NSCAA Team Academic Award, most recently landing a spot on the list with a team GPA of 3.38 in 2014.
Madsen came to SFA following a two-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Dubuque, in Dubuque, Iowa. During her time at UD, she helped lead the Spartans to their first-ever Iowa Conference Tournament title and first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009. Madsen assisted in all areas of the program, specifically recruiting, scouting of opponents and on-field training.
As a player, Madsen starred as a midfielder for the University of South Alabama from 2004-2008, where she was a First Team All-Sunbelt Conference player and was selected to the Sunbelt Tournament First Team. Madsen scored 22 goals and added 20 assists over her collegiate career. After graduation, Madsen played in England for Portsmouth Women's Football Club and in the W-League for the London Gryphons (London, Ontario).
Madsen currently holds her NSCAA National Diploma and NSCAA Level III GK Diploma.
Madsen is a native of Pensacola, Florida. She obtained her bachelor's degree in communications in 2008 and her master's degree in communications in 2011.
Madsen resides in Nacogdoches with her husband Patrick Madsen. The two wed on May 24, 2014.
